Mandela Day Coding Tournament
Coding Tournament
Type: Honoring Legacy Through Innovation
Description: The Mandela Day Coding Tournament is more than a celebration—it’s a launchpad for digital empowerment in rural schools. Powered by Tangible Africa—a partnership between Nelson Mandela University’s Computing Sciences Department and the Leva Foundation—this annual event introduces learners to the world of coding through fun, accessible, and unplugged tools.
What began in 2017 as a university project has grown into a national movement, with coding apps like TANKS, RANGERS, and BOATS revolutionizing how young people engage with technology—no computers required.
As Movement Story Technology, we are proud partners in this mission. For us, the tournament is just the beginning. It sparks curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking, which we then nurture through ongoing school-based coding clubs and activities throughout the year.
In the spirit of Madiba, we’re coding change one learner, one game, one idea at a time.
